Charlene Watt Wins Princess of Pain 45 Title
Charlene Watt was crowned Princess of Pain champion on Saturday 30th May, 2015. “POP” veteran Charlene “The Machine” Watt’s of Incorporated Martial Arts strong explosive fighting style proved to be the right formula winning the Princesses of Pain – 45 A Class title competition. After 3 impressive fights in one night, Watt won the title against Hera “Nytmare” Tamati in an all out battle getting her arm raised after a ref’s stoppage.
The much anticipated 6 woman eliminator event fronted by organizer Belinda Dunne proved to deliver on its promise of “speed, power, action packed” showcasing both A & B Class female fighters from around the country, but it was this crowd deafening final that made this the highlight of the evening.
Round 1 both women come out swinging, Hera proving dominant with her signature flurry of punches and push kicks to Watt’s body. With a well controlled trip, and gaining side control Tamati wins this round easily. Round 2 was a complete turn around with Watt coming to the party taking the round with takedowns, dominant top mount position for most the round and damaging hammerfists to Hera’s face.
Final round and as blood flowed from Hera’s face, it was pure heart and determination following her into centre ring. The crowd on their feet screaming “Char-lene” proved to be the best motivation for this woman as she continued to throw right hands on her feet, and then dominate with ground and pound. As the referee was about to call the fight over, Hera’s partner/coach throws in the towel – giving her the look of “I had to”.
Fighter of the night Charlene Watt was the only competition fighter on the night to not let any of her fights go to decision winning her first by submission against Gaela Nixon of ETK and her second via ref stoppage against Barbara Verlinden of Team Hammerhead MMA. After of course winning her new purple Princesses of Pain belt against Hera Tamati in the final.
Hera Tamati’s run to the final was no walk in the park either facing former Princesses of Pain champion and crowd favourite Tairi “Powered by Ford” Ford in the semi final. Hera walking in and catching Tairi with a right hand, leaving both the crowd and Hera stunned as Tairi hit the floor, Hera then swooping in to finish via submission in the first round.
