Commonwealth Youth Games begin
The 2017 Bahamas Commonwealth youth games have finally began with a couple wins already for New Zealanders.
Most of the New Zealanders were unlucky with their placings in the tournaments as they all fought in the preliminary rounds. However two of the Samoan competitors (Seanoa Hall and Marion Ah Tong) were lucky to be placed in the quarter finals.

Tongan boxer Tuihalangingie Vea went up against Walsh John Paul Wilson. Vea lost by 3 – 2 on Pts. New Zealander Rakai Tianara Kirkwood took on Canadian Hamza Khabbaz. Kirkwood lost the bout by 4 – 1 Pts. New Zealander Jayden Te Waiho Downs took on England’s Mark Dickinson. Downs lost the bout by 4 – 1 Pts.
New Zealander Shylah Te Urang Waikai took on Sri Lankan Madumali Eranga Marappuli Henayale. Waikai won the bout by 4 – 1 Pts. Waikai will get a day off tomorrow but she will be scheduled to take on Mozambique Boxer Helena Ismael Bagao. If Waikai wins this bout, she will be guaranteed a medal placing.
Taiwan Born New Zealander Kyle Ting Chen took on Australian Cullum James Adams. It was reported to be a very close bout and Chen had the disadvantage due to having a flu like infection. Chen one the bout by 3 – 2 Pts. Chen is now scheduled to take on Walsh Jay Daniel Munn. If Chen wins this bout, he will be guaranteed a medal placing.
New Zealander Pelea Soara Fruean, was the lucky boxer as she goes straight into the quarterfinals, with only one win to give her a guarantee to the medal placing.
